Cameron Rupp – Texas Longhorns

19 07 2009

Thought I would throw together a few quick sketches. In quick, I mean a few hours and not the normal 16 hours like on the Jason Witten picture. Quick sketches are a lot of fun and it is a way for me to have a quick turn around on showing players from an event that just happened. For example, The College World Series.

Everyone knows, or should know by now, I am a big Texas Longhorn fan. Texas was within 1 game of winning a National Championship in baseball last month. I actually had a chance to watch most of the games and they are definitely fun to watch but at the same time a little nerve racking. Thought I would throw together some quick sketches of some of those moments from the 09 Texas Longhorn Baseball season. So I hope you enjoy the first of more to come.

OK…back to traditional roots for a moment. Thought I would draw somebody who will make us forget all about Terrell Owens. Shocked that so many sportscasters have quickly forgotten his skill.

Ok…thought I would finally post the Romo drawing I finished the week before they fell apart against Baltimore and Philadelphia. Hope you like!

Yes, I am a big Romo fan. I know he can be inconsistent but you have to keep in mind a few years ago this guy was from Nothern Illinois and was a 3rd string quarterback. We are the ones that have put him up on a pedestal and have set him up to fail.

I believe he still is the guy that gets us to a Super Bowl (especialy if Eli Manning can do it). I think the lack of the team concept along with head scratching play calling was the Cowboy’s downfall in 08. Oh don’t forget lack of discipline and leadership. You can go on and on, all I can say is bad games from Romo was still better and more exciting than watching a good game from Brad Johnson…oh and shall we remember the games with Quincy Carter a few seasons ago.

Big game tonight

#3 Texas vs #10 Ohio State

Prediction Texas 38 – Ohio State 24

Would not have predicted that close of a score but Ohio State has had a month to prepare.

I have almost finished up a Colt McCoy drawing, hopefully I will be able post soon. Seems everyone I draw has bad games…crossing my fingers the curse will be broken tonight

Dallas Stars Fever…

5 10 2008

OK, finally, I have been going crazy waiting on posting a Dallas Stars story. Wanted to wait and kick off the 08′ – 09′ season when I finished drawing one of my favorite Stars player. I have finally finished. Hope you like!

Scan doesn’t do it justice. Would like to get the drawing signed one day. Took me about 16 hours – 11×14 – 2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B Pencils- Tortillons – Tissue – Kneaded eraser – Electric eraser

Sure was nice listening to Ralph and Razor on the radio the other night. Got the fever really going now. Just got new satellite and realized my wife did not order the FSN package…thats like having a new born and forgetting to buy diapers and bottles. I thought I had her trained on the Stars stuff. Think she is still bitter Darryl Sydor is not playing for them…lol.

I’ll add a few thoughts about camp in the next few days. Until then…

Where was the Barbarian?

29 09 2008

Alright, this is my first entry for the art side of the blog fully kicking off “Where Sports and Art Collide”.

Where was the Barbarian?

Marion Barber Dallas Cowboys
Marion Barber Dallas Cowboys

His disappearance was no fault of his own. Week in and week out we are told by the so called “football experts” and coaches themselves you have to keep running and pounding M. Barber with a little mix of F. Jones, so by the end of the 3rd quarter and beginning of the 4th you have worn down the defense. So naturally when you see a stat like Dallas had 58 total plays you would think 20-30 carries. No…Try 11 rushes total ( 8 – M. Barber, 2 – F. Jones, 1 – T. Owen), if I am not mistaken it was just 4 in the second half.

I was a little surprised by Garrett’s (Offensive Coordinator) play calling this week, seems like he was out of sinc. I thought they made some good adjustments during halftime because the 1st drive in the second half was typical cowboys except without all the Barber down the throat. Then it seemed we forgot what we did that got us down the field earlier. Barber is one of the best backs in the league at smash mouth football, give him the ball and jump on his shirt tails.

I, like many fans, was amazed at the non calls like grabbing A. Jones face mask on a punt return and about 4 or 5 times they could have called defensive holding or pass interference. Lets be honest bad calls or not the Pro Bowl laden Cowboys should not lose a game like that. The Cowboys showed their lack of ability to step up and play to their potential in games that mean something. Yes I feel this game meant something. I don’t feel Washington is a playoff team, still Dallas has to win the division games to separate themselves when it comes down to the playoffs and they start having to go off head to head records to decide the standings. I’m frustrated…if you are a Cowboy fan and lose to the redskins it just makes you ill. I guess we have to fall back on the old quote. “We have 5 rings…and you have?” I’ll stop ranting, probably be more tomorrow…

As far as the drawing of M. Barber…took about 8 hours, graphite pencils, tissue paper, kneaded erasers. Reference photo was a wallpaper on June 08. First sports drawing I have done in 30 years. Hope you like…
